On Sunday 12th September 2021 Worthing Miniature Railway held a charity day for Ferring Country Centre. The Worthing and District Society of Model Engineers, which has been running for over forty years and has over one hundred members, donated 100% of the money raised to us. The Society not only donated their time but didn’t take any of the money raised towards their running costs or catering. Larry Avard, chairman, explained that members from the society donated the delicious handmade cakes which were hugely popular!

The fares, for exhilarating locomotive rides (around their quarter of a mile long, overlapping circular track at Field Place) were all donated. It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday and lots of families turned up to support the joyful event. We also had a stall at the event which helped to raise awareness and gave people the opportunity to ask us questions. We sold products from the gift shop to the value of £217. The profits gained from these sales will be in addition to the £1000 raised by the society.

The railway usually runs on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month between Easter and October. They are opening for a special Christmas event, however, on Sunday 12th December between 11am and 3pm.

Martin Laker, society treasurer, was thrilled to welcome a group of our Day Service Customers to receive the cheque on Wednesday 20th October along with Sam Kirk, Head of Commercial. Many members from the society turned up to celebrate the handover of the money. Our group enjoyed looking at the indoor miniature train set and were thrilled to be invited back later in the Spring to see the outdoor trains working, by Leigh Gibbins, society secretary.

We are so grateful to Larry, Leigh, Martin and the team for their generosity, interest, and kindness.
