Exclusive Shetland Pony Experience

A wonderful, exclusive experience helping one of our animal welfare team care for a Shetland Pony. Suitable for an animal lover, Shetland Pony fan or anyone who wants a memorable experience to treasure forever.

What’s included? You will help to collect a Shetland pony from the field and lead it back to the barn. There you will be shown how to brush its mane, groom its body and clean the pony's feet. You will then help to prepare the horse feed and deliver it to the pony. and plenty of time for photographs to create a lasting memory.

Who is it for ? This fantastic experience is suitable for anyone over the age of 4 who would enjoy a hands on, interactive experience with our knowledgeable team. And there’s no upper age limit so adults are welcome to book an experience too!

How old do you have to be? There’s no upper age limit but anyone under the age of 12 must be accompanied by their grown up!

How long is the session?  Your experience will start at 9:30am and last for around 40 minutes. There will be plenty of time to take photographs and lots of opportunities to ask questions, throughout.

What should I wear? Dress for the weather! Closed toe shoes or wellies (no flip flops or open toed sandals), and a waterproof or warm coat.

It’s an exclusive experience just for you. And you will be presented with a certificate at the end!

How do I book? Experiences are available Mon-Fri depending on availability. Please phone 01903 245078 to book a date. If you have a specific date in mind, please phone and check availability, before you buy this experience.

Please note:

The pony's welfare is our top priority.  Animals can be unpredictable. There maybe a time when we need to swap to a different pony to ensure  it’s wellbeing.

The weather is also unpredictable. Dreadful weather might mean the ponies are already inside and not in the fields. The session can still go ahead unless the conditions mean you would not get the full benefit. Weather postponement will be entirely at the Farm Managers discretion. If this happens the experience might be postponed to a different date.

To ensure the event is calm and enjoyable for the pony, additional family members are welcome to watch but only one additional sibling.  The usual Dales Farm entrance fee applies to anyone additional who wishes to watch. Payable on arrival.

Shetland ponies have lots of character and can potentially kick, step on your feet or bump into you! Please listen carefully to instructions that are given and make sure any children adhere to them. Your children and their behaviour are your responsibility during this activity. Our team will end the session if they feel that any behaviour is putting the Pony, Team or child at risk. In this circumstance no refund will be offered.

  • This is not a horse-riding activity, just a lovely chance to get close to one of our Shetland ponies and spend time with them!
  • These experiences, once booked , are non-refundable. If you wish to change the date this will be entirely at Ferring Country Centre’s discretion and session availability. No guarantees can be given.
  • The session will last approximately 40 mins.
